Dealing with work stress
Blog 3 of 3 in a series of work related stress blogs
You need time out, this is down time for your mind, body and brain. Do something for you, where possible not tech related. Do your favourite hobby, get a hobby, go for a walk, take a hot bath, move your body in some way (yoga, walk, run, cycling, climbing, canoeing), listen to music, as they say it sooths the soul. Find something just for you, this is important, you may even say, this is necessary. You need to start being selfish for your own health, if you aren’t good then how can you offer your best???
Make sure you take breaks when at work. You will work much better with breaks so don’t use it as an excuse, I don’t have time, make time, this is your health. Look back at my blog How to Handle Work Stress, at how many days were lost to time off due to work related stress.
Where possible leave work at work, if you need to take work home then have an allotted time to do it and stick to it. Give yourself a time and an amount of time you are going to do it, yes SICK TO IT, set an alarm if you need too (use technology to your advantage).
Turn all technology off before bed, DO NOT TAKE TECHNOLOGY INTO THE BEDROOM, the excuse that your mobile phone is your alarm clock is not a good enough excuse to take it to bed with you, STOP IT NOW. Buy yourself an alarm clock, as someone said the other day £10 on an alarm clock is worth it for your health and its true.
I have 2 free downloads that are techniques you can learn to help you that are discreate and you can do them almost anywhere.
- Be Present – This is a simple technique that you can use when feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, anytime you find your brain running off into overdrive. It may also help you to sleep by bringing you back to the moment. Here is the link https://www.subscribepage.com/y1x8p4_bepresent or pop over to the Shop https://hypnotherapy-cumbria.co.uk/shop/
- Belly Breathing – Another simple technique that can be learned to help when feeling overwhelmed or anxious, belly breathing relaxes and calms the vagus nerve that in turn will help you to feel calm. Here’s the link https://www.subscribepage.com/y1x8p4_bellybreathing or pop over to the Shop https://hypnotherapy-cumbria.co.uk/shop/
Both of the above downloads should be listened to and learned when you are feeling ok so that you can use them when you need too.
However, having said that if you have the ability to listen to then discreetly at work then I don’t think you would find any problems, you don’t need to do these techniques with your eyes closed.
